The 2027 switch-off
UK Switch-Off Info.
The UK’s analogue phone network (PSTN) is being switched off in January 2027. Here’s what every business needs to know — and how to get ready.
What is the PSTN switch-off?
Openreach is retiring the UK’s traditional analogue phone network (PSTN and ISDN lines) in January 2027. From 1st February 2027, traditional landlines and older phone systems will stop working and any numbers still on the old network will no longer function. Every business that relies on a landline needs to move to a digital (IP) service before the deadline.
What does it mean for your business?
- Traditional landlines and ISDN lines will stop working
- Numbers must be moved to an IP-based service to keep working
- Devices that depend on a phone line — alarms, lifts, PDQ terminals, fax — need reviewing
- Waiting until the last minute risks losing your phone service completely
